Bible in Slavonic. The book «Exodus». Prague,
edition by Dr. Skorina from Polotsk, circa 1519, 76 pages, front page,
1a, the title is «The second book of Moses, titled as Exodus,
translated into Russian by Dr. Francis Skorina from Polotsk, devoted
to the Trinity God and to His Mother, for the knowledge of good
people». Imprint is put in the end of the book, page 76a: «It’s the
second book of Moses in the Jewish for is Hellesmont, in the Greek for
is Exodos, in the Latin for is Exitus, and the Russian for is Iskhod,
by Dr. Fransic Skorina from Polotsk published in the glorious city of
Prague».
Format: 4o, wooden cliché — 161x106, lines — 22, with 10 lines
— 75
sheets. There are no carry-over words or signature, the one colour
printing. Top side paginating on each page in the upper right corner:
1-76=76 pages.

Ornament: Big initial letters in frames with different illustrations
in the background, 43 overprints from 25 boards. Miniatures: 5a,
rectangular miniature with signet of Skorina in the centre thereof and
figures of the fauns on both sides, side shield are a little
shaded,size — 53x106.
Gravures: 1) Title sheet, 1a «Pharaoh’s daughter has found baby Moses
in the water», size — 104x104; 2) 45b, «The sight of icon case and
sanctuary of the Testament», 104x105; 3) 46b, «The sight of the table

1545. The condition is normal, but there are some marginal soiling &
stains; rubbed and repaired some leaves. Extremely rare! It’s a great
culture and historic object.
The common title for all of 22 books of the Bible published by Skorina
and compiled for the book «Genesis» sounds like «Russian Bible
compiled by Dr. Francis Skorina from the glorious city of Polotsk, for
the glory of God and for noble man for good knowledge».
